Try these 4 strength exercises perfect for your at-home workout.
With a New Year comes new health goals, and for many of us that includes prioritizing our fitness. There are lots of ways to increase your activity such as running, biking, walking, swimming, or going to the gym. But what if the gym isn’t an option due to health concerns, closure, budget, or location? We’ve learned to do a lot of things at home this year, and fitness is no exception. There are plenty of strength exercises you can do at home without a lot of equipment or hassle.
This week we’re helping you meet your fitness goals with 4 strength exercises perfect for your at-home workout.
4 Simple, At-Home Strength Exercises
You may have heard of some of these strength exercises, while others might be new to you. Give them a try to incorporate strength and toning into your workout routine.
Squats
A classic for a reason! Squats help tone your butt, legs and abs while burning tons of calories. Start off standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. Then, bend at the hips to and lower your butt, while bending your knees. Stop when your thighs are parallel to the ground. Finish by standing back up straight. Keep your butt and abs tight during this exercise for maximum benefit.
Planks
This move is designed to target your core and is best done on an exercise mat. Start off in plank position with your face down, and forearms and toes on the floor – your head should be relaxed. Engage your abdominal muscles by drawing your navel toward your spine while keeping your body in a straight line. Hold this for 15 seconds to start and gradually increase plank time as you get stronger.
Hip Bridges
A great move for toning your butt! This move is done lying down flat on your back with your arms at your sides. Make sure your feet are hip distance apart and then raise your butt off the ground, creating a diagonal line from your knees. Slowly lower your butt to the floor and repeat.
Donkey Kicks
Start on all fours and then pull your knee to your chest, while flexing your foot. Kick your leg up to the sky and then lower it back down, while keeping your knee bend and your foot still flexed. Repeat this move on the other side.
