Do you find that you have puffy eyes or a puffy face when you wake up in the morning? You’re not alone.

If you’ve been wondering how to reduce a puffy face after waking up, read on for suggestions about putting green tea on your face, green tea serums, and other green tea products and ideas.

Green Tea on Face

Green tea isn’t just a delicious drink. It can also be one of your secret weapons in the fight against a puffy face in the morning. The practice of putting green tea bags over your eyes or on the face has been around for a long time. In fact, people use green tea on their faces for everything from reducing puffiness, swelling, and inflammation; getting rid of black circles under the eyes; and even treating dry eye, pink eye, or rosacea.

The reason? Green tea is rich in flavonoids and tannins, which both act as antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties. Another reason is the caffeine in green tea, which may help to shrink blood vessels in the skin.

To use green tea bags on your face, wet two green tea bags with lukewarm (never hot) or cold water, and place them on your eyes for 5-10 minutes. If you have loose leaf tea, use a loose leaf tea pouch, or put the loose leaf tea leaves in a muslin cloth.

You can do this as needed, or every day if you want!

Serums

Another way to prevent and treat a puffy face after waking up is with serums. There are countless options when it comes to facial serums and their active ingredients.

Some common ingredients or components to a facial serum to look out for on the product label are hyaluronic acid, retinol, caffeine, green tea extract, and antioxidants like vitamin C or vitamin E.

Make a Green Tea Serum

This option is the best of both worlds. You can also make a green tea serum to reduce a puffy face in the morning! Here are the steps for crafting a simple green tea and coffee serum for reducing puffiness.

  • 1 tablespoon green loose leaf tea.

  • 1 tablespoon jojoba oil.
  • 10 drops grapefruit seed oil.
  • 10 drops lavender oil.

  2. Heat them on the stove on low heat. Stir frequently until coffee dissolves.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Pour liquid from pan through a coffee filter into a glass bottle.
