
The Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions for 2012 according to the University of Scranton Journal of Clinical Psychology are:
1. Lose Weight
2. Get Organized
3. Spend Less, Save More
4. Enjoy Life to the Fullest
5. Stay Fit & Healthy
6. Learn Something Exciting
7. Quit Smoking
8. Help Others in Their Dreams
9. Fall in Love
10. Spend More Time With Family
After some thought about these common goals, I came to the conclusion that people just want to be healthy and happy and feel good about themselves. Self-fulfillment… who wouldn’t want a satisfying and worthwhile life well-lived, right?
The funny thing is, most of these resolutions are on TIME’s List of the Top 10 Commonly Broken New Year’s Resolutions.
So why, of the 62% of people who make New Year’s Resolutions, do only 8% succeed?
Isn’t failure the absolute worst way to achieve self-fulfillment?
Instead of setting yourself up for failure, try giving yourself goals that are actually obtainable.
Get more specific and have a plan.
Remember, a New Year’s Resolution is not just supposed to be a wish.
It’s a commitment to yourself to take a step in the right direction on the path to a healthier new you!
Start small.
