Ever have one of those reality checks  in the mirror when the light catches your reflection in such a way that you see every tiny line and crease on your face? It’s a sobering reminder of the years you’ve lived and quaint cliches about aging don’t make you feel any better!  Not too long ago I was working in the church nursery and an adorable 3 yr. old girl looked me straight in the eye and said, “So how did you get so old?!” I wasn’t sure if I should laugh or cry!

Short of following the Hollywood crowd and opting for a face-lift, just exactly how can you keep the wrinkles at bay? There are the usual recommendations to lower the stress in your life (sure, no problem) get enough sleep, excercise and eat right, but did you also know the humble aloe vera plant is proven to help fight aging skin? Ever since the days of Egyptian pharoahs, aloe vera has been used to treat the skin and the health benefits of aloe are limitless!

You no doubt know the healing benefits of aloe ON your skin, but ingesting aloe shows even more promise! This article from GreenMedInfo.com reveals how just a teaspoon a day, can help your skin keep that youthful look – or at minimum, keep you from looking any older!

There is plenty of research that indicates that the unnaturally accelerated aging process associated with modern living and/or natural environmental exposures such as excessive ultraviolet radiation (photaging), can be slowed. In fact, over 150 natural substances have been indexed on aging in the GreenMedInfo.com project with demonstrable “anti-aging,” or if you prefer, “longevity-promoting” properties.

Of the 69 natural substances indexed on GreenMedInfo.com of potential value in aging skin, aloe is one of the most compelling substances, and works from the inside out …

In a study published in the journal Annals of Dermatology in 2009, healthy female subjects over the age of 45, and who received 2 different oral doses (low-dose: 1,200 mg/d, high-dose: 3,600 mg/d) of aloe vera gel supplementation for 90 days, saw remarkable results. The researchers measured clinical signs and biochemical changes of aging skin before and after supplementation and found that “After aloe gel intake, the facial wrinkles improved significantly (p<0.05) in both groups, and facial elasticity improved in the lower-dose group.“  They concluded: “Aloe gel significantly improves wrinkles and elasticity in photoaged human skin.

Keep in mind that 3,600 mg of aloe a day is not what you would call a “megadose,” as it is a little less than a teaspoon. 1,200 mg is only a quarter of a teaspoon, and in fact, according to the study, may actually be superior to the higher dose at improving facial elasticity; less is sometimes more, one can assume.

Voila! There you have it, a little aloe every day will help to keep the wrinkles away! If you’re thinking you want to give this beauty tip a try – start with Aloe Farms Aloe Vera Juice or,  if  taking a pill is more appealing, there’s  Aloe Vera Juice Tablets from Douglas Labs.  Aloe should be a staple in every supplement cabinet for the dozens of  health benefits it provides – everything from  gastrointestinal support to cancer prevention, and who doesn’t need that?! I’ll bet you didn’t know looking younger could be this easy!
