When my sister and I were young teens my parents made us clean A LOT. We couldn’t even ride our bikes to the library during summer break until the house was spotless! One day my sister was having a heck of a time with one of her daily cleaning tasks and decided to go to Dad for some advice. “You gotta put a little elbow grease into it,” Dad said. Time passed and finally Cori went back to Dad and with a big frustrated sigh she exclaimed “Dad! I’ve been looking all over and I can’t find the “elbow grease” anywhere!” It was a total Amelia Bedeila moment that still makes me laugh when I think about it.
It feels good to laugh! I remember the days when I rolled on the floor with belly jiggling laughter. I was a kid of course, but why can’t we still be kids at heart and have the laughing attacks we once had? Do you even remember the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed your pants? I’m willing to bet it doesn’t happen often enough, but when it does you have a rush of mood boosting energy that flows through your body! Izzy Gesell, “America’s Humorologist” created International Moment of Laughter Dayto encourage more people to laugh. Izzy says,
Laughter comes right after breathing as just about the healthiest thing you can do. It relieves stress, instills optimism, raises self-confidence, defuses resistance to change, and enhances all your relationships.
With that said, why wouldn’t you want to celebrate a National observance like this?! Being the creative genius that I am, I came up with some great ideas to help you celebrate this day. After-all, there has to be someway to get all you ‘ol grumpards to laugh, right?
A Moment of Laughter
Remember the times
My husband and I like to call bringing up good memories “remember the times.” We will start off the memory by saying, “Remember the time when…” Get with a longtime good friend, or significant other and ask if they want to “member” the times with you. Tell a few stories together and reminisce for a while. I guarantee you’ll find something to laugh about!
See a Comedy or Comedian
Yeah, seeing a movie these days can get to be expensive. Especially when we have cable, Netflix, Redbox, etc. But, there’s just something special about the experience of seeing it on a big screen with all the other people. You only live once right? Don’t be such a penny pincher! Go ahead and spoil yourself today. If you know a good comedy will get you bursting with laugther, then that’s how you should celebrate this day. If you prefer a funny live stand-up or improv routine, check out your local comedy clubs to see who will be performing! Use this site to help you find comedy clubs near you.
 Dig Out the Baby Pictures
We all enjoy seeing pictures of ourselves when we were babies! Go through some old photo albums with your parents and to top it off, ask your mom or dad to share some funny stories about when you were just a little tike. If anything, it will probably make them laugh… and laughter is contagious! Speaking of contagious laughter…Doug Collins from Memphis Tennessee, is reputed to have the most infectious laugh in the world and was tested by MTV. Watch the video below to test this contagious laugh on yourself!
There are plenty of hilarious videos put out by people like you on You Tube! You will see animals doing the craziest things, babies that laugh out loud and you can’t help but laugh too, funny TV bloopers and just other random funny videos that will get you rolling on the floor laughing! But, you have to take some time out from all the busyness and let yourself be entertained for a while.
Play Games
Some of my all-time favorite games that have caused me to crack-up are Balderdash, Apples to Apples, Pictionary and Catch Phrase. Get together with some friends or just another couple and get your game on. It’s time to let loose and find your moment of laughter! And if you’re just a stick in the mud and need a little extra help with simply cracking a smile, check out this list…
