6 Unique Recipes To Grill For Your Next Cookout

Nothing beats that smokey smell and sizzling sound of dinner on the grill. Plus, there’s something very satisfying about cooking a meal outside.

Grilling out, or having a BBQ, is a great way to feed and entertain your guests. Most people agree, it’s easier and more convenient than cooking in the kitchen!

Summertime includes three of the most popular holidays for grilling according to The Barbecue Association.

Here are the holidays when the majority of Americans fire up the grill:

  • 71% grill out on July 4th
  • 57% grill out on Memorial Day
  • 55% grill out on Labor Day

A surprising 60 percent of us grill meals year round. And burgers, steak, hot dogs and chicken are the most popular foods for cooking – in that order.

But, what if you changed it up next time and tried grilling something a little different?

Here are six unique recipes for your next cookout that will make you fall even more in love with the art of grilling.

1. Grilled Caesar Salad

Did you know you could grill romaine lettuce?  I didn’t until I found this recipe from Dorothy of Shockingly Delicious, who says we should really join the Grilled Caesar Club and give it a try.

It’s a good way to put a tasty spin on the same ceasar salad you’re used to. The smokey flavor of the charred lettuce just might surprise you! And it only takes two minutes to grill. It’s perfect for the first course.

2. Grilled Onion Blossom With Red Pepper Aioli

Planked blossom onion

Here’s an awesome recipe from Maria of the Proud Italian Cook, who created her own healthy version of those famous bloomin’ onions you can order at a Steakhouse.

The Food Network put together this handy step-by-step guide for how to cut your onion:

Maria uses a flat wooden plank to cook the onions, but if you don’t have one of those, you can use some other type of grilling sheet or paper.

The rest is simple, you just flavor your onions with garlic, cheese and other seasonings and generously drizzle on the olive oil. Then, grill them on low heat for an hour and top with fresh basil and parsley.

Maria also includes her recipe for Red Pepper Aioli for dipping!

3. Grilled Pineapple Salsa

This charred pineapple salsa can make a perfect appetizer for the party in your backyard when it’s served with tortilla chips. But, it also makes a fabulous topping on grilled chicken, pork chops or even fish tacos.

Laura, from Tide and Thyme, who created the recipe says when you mix the grilled pineapple with red onion, lime, cilantro and fresh jalapeno, you’ll have yourself a damn fine salsa!

4. Greek Chicken Kebabs With Tzatziki Sauce

Greek Chicken Kebabs with Tzatziki | Cooking Classy

Greek food is so healthy and delicious! I don’t know about you, but I love that white dipping sauce they call tzatziki.

If you want to try something different on the grill this summer, whip up these Greek chicken kebabs courtesy of Jaclyn from Cooking Classy, who is also a big fan of tzatziki. She says she could even eat it on her oatmeal in the morning!

The recipe is fairly simple,  but the chicken does take about 45 minutes to an hour to marinate, the wooden skewers need to soak for at least a half hour, and the sauce takes a bit of time to prepare as well.

But the meal is well worth it. You and your dinner guests will love the flavorful combination of zucchini, red onion, red pepper and chicken dipped in the famous Greek sauce.

5. Chicken Burgers With Cheddar & Spinach

If you’re sick of the same old hamburgers, you should definitely give this ground chicken burger recipe a shot!

Michelle from Sole for the Soul says it’s one of those meals that tastes so incredibly good but you don’t feel bad about it because it’s healthy.

It’s also pretty easy, too. You just blend up some spinach, onion, garlic and green onions, mix it with quality ground chicken and add balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, lemon juice, chili powder, cheese and bread crumbs. Then refrigerate the patties for a couple of hours and grill them up when you’re ready. Enjoy!

6. Grilled Peaches

Of course, there has to be a dessert for grilling. And Nancy from Real Food, Allergy Free, says grilled peaches with brown sugar on top turns them into something special. Like little bowls of peach pie filling!

You can serve them up with ice cream and surprise your family or guests with an exceptional dessert.

Ashley, what a nice collection of creative dishes to grill! Thank you for including my Grilled Caesar Salad. With Memorial Day on Monday, I’m glad you reminded me of this! I might just grill a pineapple, too, while I’m at it.
