Sticking to a healthy diet is tough when we’re constantly surrounded by unhealthy food choices. Our grocery stores are filled with processed junk that we buy because it’s quick, easy and convenient.
But these so called “foods” are just not good for us. Besides being processed, most likely with GMOs – they’re made with additives, preservatives, dyes, artificial sweeteners and other ingredients known to be harmful to our health. Bad food can be like a drug. We get addicted to it. We get diseases from it. But – we love it. At least our taste buds do.
But, it is possible to love healthy food too – I promise. It’s even fun to experiment with different things. You’ll discover combinations made with simple ingredients that actually satisfy those stubborn taste buds. Plus, you’ll feel proud to be eating real food with real health benefits!
Here’s a list of 10 super easy recipes and/or snack ideas that I discovered taste great. Maybe you’ll think so too.
1. Grilled Avocado With Salsa
When you’re grilling avocados, the thing that takes the longest, is firing up the grill! This is seriously simple and delicious. I suggest using Hass avocados for this – they grill up very nicely. Then just cut your avocados in half, and use the tip of your knife to pop the pits out of the center. Then coat them with some extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon or lime juice and a good amount of salt and pepper. Put them on the grill face down for about 3-5 minutes or until they are warm and have beautiful grill marks! Pour a little of your favorite salsa (inspect the ingredients) on top and enjoy!

2. Spaghetti Squash With Marinara
This one takes a little big longer to make because you have to bake the spaghetti squash for a good hour. It’s easy though! Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Then cut a spaghetti squash in half and coat both sides with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. Fill a glass baking dish with 1/4 inch of water and set the squash halves in the dish – face down. Bake for about an hour. Next, use a fork to scrape out the “noodles” and put them in a serving bowl. Add some tasty, ingredient-approved marinara sauce on top and savor the flavor of this healthy, good food.

3. Avocado Taco Salad
This recipe seems way to easy to be good, but there’s something about it that really hits the spot. When I eat salad, I usually like arugula, spinach and other greener-leafy choices. But, I think the romaine lettuce works the best in this case.
Simply fill up your bowl with romaine lettuce, top that with one sliced avocado and some tomatoes. Then add a generous amount of black bean and corn salsa. It’s so good!

4. Coconut Oil Roasted Sweet Potato Fries
I’m the kind of person that likes to switch things up. I’ll try one brand, and the next time I’ll try another brand. But, when it comes to my coconut oil, I’ve always stayed true to Garden of Life’s non-GMO, 100% organic extra virgin coconut oil. I just love it – even by the tablespoon!
To make sweet potato fries, preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Wash, peel and cut your sweet potatoes into slices. Try not to get them wet after you peel them, because the oil sticks better when they’re dry.
Toss the potato slices with a generous amount of coconut oil, salt and pepper. If you want, you can even add a little turmeric, paprika and onion powder. When you put them on a baking sheet, try to leave enough space in between so they aren’t touching. Then bake them for 10 minutes, flip and bake for 10 more minutes. Enjoy!
5. Pineapple Whip
I’ve found that when you mix frozen and non frozen fruit together in a blender or Vitamix, the texture is similar to ice cream. I love to make smoothies with a frozen banana, a few frozen berries or mixed fruit that you can get in a bag and lots of other fresh fruit too – especially strawberries. It doesn’t need juice, yogurt or anything else! Just fruit. My boys love them too, and I feel so good knowing they are enjoying such a healthy snack.
This recipe takes longer, since you have to freeze the pineapple chunks overnight. It also calls for manuka honey and almond milk. But that’s okay, because there are so many benefits to eating manuka honey! It has natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Y.S. 6. Applesauce, Bananas & Pecans
There’s no fancy name for this yummy snack idea. I just combined applesauce, 1 sliced banana, chopped pecans and a good amount of cinnamon together. It’s good. I’m sure you could get even more creative with this one.
You could try warming up the applesauce. You could add some raisins or some other type of dried fruit. You could even add some flax seeds or a few drops of vitamin D3 for some extra health benefits. I’m not gonna lie – it’s not apple pie, but it’s a pretty darn good alternative!
7. Apple Pecan Detox Snack

This mixture of ingredients just might surprise you, and it literally takes minutes to prepare. Chop up an apple and mix it with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and chopped pecans. I like a lot of pecans! Make sure you stir it up very well! In my opinion it’s like eating a candied apple. Let us know what you think…
8. Homemade Strawberry Rhubarb Jam
You don’t have to eat jam only with toast. It could also be used to sweeten your oatmeal, the plainest greek yogurt you can find or even put it on top of some homemade rice pudding. This jam is sweetened with healthy manuka honey and thickened with chia seeds – believe it or not. The Chia seeds actually turn gel-like when you refrigerate them overnight. If you want your jam to be chunky, simply add more fruit. Blend all the ingredients together and refrigerate overnight. That’s it. Easy!
9. Frozen Grapes
I like to wash all my fruit and veggies with Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap because you never know how many harmful pesticides or herbicides are lurking on their skin. Then put them on a baking sheet – single file – with piece of paper towel between layers. Freeze and forget about them until the morning. You’ll have yourself a sweet and creamy treat.
10. Coconut Coffee
This one is not so much for kids… obviously. But, if you want to get the daily benefits of coconut oil, but you don’t love the idea of eating it by the tablespoon, just add it to your coffee! It gives it a slight coconut flavor – which is definitely better than any flavored creamers!
