What’s the deal with GMOs? The Refusers say we have a right to know.

Focused on music, education and activism, members of the rock group The Refusers, under the leadership of guitarist and lead singer Michael Belkin, have cemented themselves as advocates for vaccine choice. Now they’re stepping up to GMOs.

On Thursday, January 29 at 1 p.m. (CT), we’ll be teaming up with Garden of Life for a Twitter chat with Michael Belkin of The Refusers to discuss GMOs. Ask questions and take part in the conversation using hashtag #GMOchat. Each participant will be entered to win a variety of prizes from The Refusers and Garden of Life!

The safety of genetically-modified organisms for human consumption has been up for debate since they were developed. While the FDA and corporations like Monsanto say there’s nothing to worry about, many organizations say research show dangerous risks.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine says several animal studies show serious health risks, including changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system, immune problems, infertility, and more.

There are also concerns about the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria due to the growing number of crops having antibiotic genes inserted into them.

And what about effects on children like allergies and autism?

Garden-of-life-GMOWith a lack of human studies, many companies say GMOs aren’t worth the risk, including Garden of Life, the #1 USDA certified organic supplement brand in the natural products industry. Garden of Life is committed to providing healthy products that are Non-GMO Project verified – a project that’s right up The Refusers’ alley. (Find out more about the project here.)  Garden of Life currently carries 70 non-GMO verified products and the list grows every day. We’re proud to partner with Garden of Life and The Refusers to get the word out about GMOs.

While many Americans simply don’t know if GMOs are safe, the vast majority support mandated GMO labeling. This includes The Refusers. With songs like “Right to Know,” they’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and stand up for personal rights when it comes to corporations and our health.

Join us on Twitter January 29 at 1 p.m. (CT) to find out why The Refusers and Garden of Life say no to GMO. Follow along and use #GMOchat for a chance to win prizes like:
