Ok, so Random Act of Kindness Week is upon us, and I think it’s worth mentioning Razzlemonster.
What? Well, Razzlemonster is a South African blogger – real name, Brent Lindeque – whose simple random act flipped an increasingly dangerous social media craze, Neknominate, on its head and inspired kindness towards strangers.
For those who don’t know, Nekominate is a craze originating in Australia that involves downing an alcoholic drink in one go in a bizarre setting and daring someone else to out do you within 24 hours.
This insanity has already been linked to the deaths of two young men in Ireland.
But when Razzlemonster was neknominated he dared to ‘change one thing, change everything.’
He gave a stranger a meal and nominated the next person to follow his random act of kindness within 24 hours.
His video first inspired others in South Africa and then went international. His actions even influenced social media followers in Ireland.
A customer in a Dublin coffee shop started a trend of buying a coffee for the next person to come into the store. And a young woman paid for the groceries of a young man with a child in a supermarket.
In fact, so popular has this new kindness trend become that there is a Facebook page for it: RAKnominate.
Check it out. On this page you will see inspiring acts of kindness. And one video features a young Australian girl “taking back” the new ‘Neknominate’ to where it all started by giving less fortunate members of her community food and water.
In the words of Razzlemonster: “Downing a can of Castle Light is easy… imagine if we all harnessed the power of social media to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
So this Random Act of Kindness Week, share a moment with a stranger and make both your days. And if you think of it make a little video and share it with us. We will proudly feature it on our blog!
